Florida GOP Power Grab

On Monday, March 6, the Senate Committee for Community Affairs meets to consider three bills that will hurt communities across the state. We urge you to contact members of the committee (direct contact info below) and urge them to vote NO on the following bills:
----------
SB 534: This bill restricts local counties and cities from enacting and enforcing many local ordinances. If passed, this means that those working on local infrastructure projects in our communities can be denied a living and prevailing wage, hurting workers and local economic development in the process. Filed by Sen. Keith Perry (R-Gainesville).
----------
SB 80: This bill will make it harder for people to access public records and effectively undermine open government in the Sunshine State. What's more, it will erode the state constitution, which guarantees Floridians the right to access public records. Filed by Sen. Greg Steube (R-Sarasota).
----------
SB 428: This bill is the Legislature's annual attack on the Florida Retirement System and would limit new participants from the pension fund, putting the retirement security of nearly a million workers and retirees at risk. Filed by Sen. Jeff Brandes (R-St. Petersburg).

Florida GOP Jeff Brandes: Let’s Make a (Corrupt) Deal

An activist group is running a radio ad in the Tampa Bay area against St. Petersburg-based state Senator Jeff Brandes that questions his ethics. The ad from Florida Strong is called “Let’s Make a (corrupt) Deal.” It attacks the Pinellas Republican for receiving campaign contributions from companies like Duke Energy and insurance lobbyists, and then claims that he voted on issues on behalf of those companies at taxpayers expense. here

Mario Nunez: Jeff Brandes is an arrogant bully and doesn't deserve our respect

"Sorry I was forced to leave early.
(Legislative Delegation @ Amalie Arena)
The Delegation did their damnedest to insure we went last, and even cut our time to just one minute. I wanted to direct my comments at

Jeff Brandes who is an arrogant bully and doesn't deserve our respect. He looked me straight in eye and lied about the TBX costing only $3B and that it would pay for itself. He claims, "people are coming, we need to add capacity". Follow the money on this, someone is getting a kickback. It's shameful." Mario Nunez

Our thoughts
Tom Lee: Has a nice face and looks like he could be a nice guy, too bad he is GOP.
Dana Young: Is smart and hot! Too bad she is GOP
John Legg: Was more interested in his cell phone and eating his nuts
then what was going on.
Ed Narain and  Arthenia Joyner looked bored.

And Jeff Brandes looked shady.

Koch Brothers Thanking Florida GOP

Koch Brothers-financed Americans for Prosperity announced it’s launching a two-week long ad campaign featuring TV, digital and mail to praise the 72 lawmakers
who the group says, “stood up for taxpayers and patients against special interests who pushed to bring Obama‘s Medicaid expansion to the Sunshine State.”

The ad to be aired in the Tampa Bay area features local Republicans Jeff Brandes, Richard Corcoran, Dana Young,
Larry Ahern, Chris Sprowls and Jamie Grant.

Florida GOP voters how is that booty feeling?
Remember we got your back!

Florida INC. Jeff Brandes, R-St. Petersburg

Senate Bill 896 would shift the costs for moving utility lines on road and infrastructure projects from utility companies to taxpayers. Under current law, if a local government widens or improves a public road, the utility company must move or remove lines in the affected area at no cost to the government. SB 896 (and its companion in the House, HB 391) would shift that cost responsibility to the counties and municipalities — i.e. local taxpayers — for projects that are inside a public right-of-way and that are related to water and sewer improvements, stormwater/swale improvements, bicycle lanes, streetscapes, etc. here

"Corporate utility companies make large political contributions to legislators, while local governments cannot. The motivation behind virtually every bad bill can best be understood by following the money."
Robert Karl Hutchinson
