The Criminals Of Tampa Food Not Bombs

Most of you that read this blog know that a recent FNB share  at Gaslight Park was threatened with arrest by TPD officers for refusing to pack up and leave immediately. TPD detained one of our greatest treasures Dezeray Lyn for 30 minutes while running her ID and stated that they can no longer share without permits, citing an ordinance that is only being enforced now as the city prepares for world famous musicians and sporting events happening this weekend. A Parks Division worker walked around photographing houseless folks eating breakfast in the park while TPD demanded that they leave the public park for doing absolutely nothing. This is in addition to TPD arresting houseless folks and telling them to "disappear for two weeks" to invisiblize them so tourists and concert goers don't have to see Tampa's suffering. here

This weekend they need your help.
Saturday at 4 PM - 6 PM

Tampa Food Not Bombs will be sharing food with our friends who are experiencing homelesness and anybody and everybody who is hungry.

This week's share is especially important, as we've faced harassment from the Tampa Parks Department and Tampa Police Department and been threatened with arrest for sharing food with the houseless community. We invite you to come and stand with us and the houseless community and stand against unjust laws. As always, Food Not Bombs will stand against oppression peacefully, so in the event that TPD makes arrests, we ask that you take to social media, live stream or tweet what's happening. We will not back down in the face of injustice.

TPD Detained Dezeray Lyn

According to Jimmy Dunson, FNB share at Gaslight Park, was threatened with arrest by four TPD officers and a Parks Division worker for refusing to "pack up and leave immediately.  TPD detained Dezeray Lyn for 30 minutes while running her ID and stated that we can no longer share without permits, citing an ordinance that is only being enforced now as the city prepares for world famous musicians and sporting events happening in our community this weekend. The Parks Division worker walked around photographing houseless folks eating breakfast in the park while TPD demanded that they leave the public park for doing absolutely nothing.

This is in addition to TPD arresting houseless folks and telling them to "disappear for two weeks" to invisiblize them so tourists and concert goers don't have to see Tampa's suffering. This is discrimination that we should not take lightly. here

Dezeray Lyn Ejected By Police From Trump Rally In Tampa

"Last night I was ejected by police from a trump hate rally in my community. I can't change enough hearts to make this monster go away- what I can do is voice opposition and steal moments of hate rhetoric and replace them with screams of resistance. This isn't just about Trump- this is about a third of the population of this land consenting to and supporting hate speech, sexually predatory behavior, anti-Muslim, Islamophobic rhetoric, xenophobia, racism, misogyny and bigotry. We have to love so much stronger than they hate. We have to." Dezeray Lyn

Beware Of Indigo Coffee In Tampa

"I stopped buying things at Indigo coffee in Tampa nearly two years ago on my birthday (after getting at least 1 coffee there every day) when, during a Food Not Bombs food share downtown, a houseless friend said he went in to buy his morning coffee and was told, "We don't serve your kind here anymore. I left the food share and made a beeline for the coffee shop and after loudly and furiously confronting them, I was told that the owner gave directive that houseless folks, (paying for their coffee or not) were not welcome at the coffee shop because they "smelled bad," and "people complained." (Likely people who have NO complaints for the social conditions that produce poverty or houselessness)"

In the meantime, I'll be at the park downtown tomorrow morning at 8am for our Food Not Bombs Tuesday morning breakfast and I'll have tons of free coffee... for everyone.
