Beautiful Words From Laila Abdelaziz
On this day, (11.20) 24 years ago, I was born in an occupied land to a very brave mama and a very strong baba. My entrance to this world didn't dignify a birth certificate, as I was born on a land under military rule and for that military power to acknowledge another human prisoner would be silly and self-defeating. So there I was, a baby with no papers in a land ruled by guns and water shortages, travel restrictions and curfews, broken dreams and hopeless promises. Generations of broken dreams and hopeless promises. more

After a handful of angry and concerned calls and emails in the wake of the Paris attacks

“Some of our core principles and values as Christians and Americans include helping individuals escape from tyranny, persecution and inhumane treatment,” Beckner wrote. “While we must remain vigilant and united in our efforts to protect our community from radical extremists who commit acts of terrorism, we cannot allow our vigilance to turn into vigilantism
against an entire religion and culture.”

Local Hero Guido Maniscalco
They came by the dozens activists and just regular residents from Seminole and Tampa Heights all imploring the Hillsborough County Metropolitan Organization not to include the controversial Tampa Bay Express project in the MPO’s Transit Improvement Project.
Speaking for the project?
8people, most of whom wore suits (or in the case of the representative for Jeff Vinik‘s group, a dress). none of whom are believed to live in the district, and several of them representing
major business organizations.

Just like GO Hillsborough they let us think we had a say in the matter. In the end they don't give a shit what we think. After three hours of discussion, the MPO voted 13-1 to support the project. The only dissenter was Tampa City Councilman
Guido Maniscalco. here

Local Hero Christina Ammons
Little Bubba and Diesel
My name is Christina and I am a law enforcement officer in Tampa Florida. Several months ago I discovered a colony of over forty cats and small kittens in an area where I work. I am in the process of building a large building which will be constructed into a kitty haven for these boys and girls to safely live out their lives free from worry and possible harm at the hands of humans. I am seeking assistance of any kind to help me with food and other necessities to carry this out. Most will need veterinarian treatment as well. Anything will help and I thank you for taking the time to listen to their story! here

SHRIMP DOCKS KITTY RESCUE PROJECT
Hello,
My name is Christina and I am a law enforcement officer in Tampa Florida. Several months ago I discovered a colony of over forty cats and small kittens in an area where I work. I learned that some people feed the cats when they are around but that is not constant because they are fisherman on shrimp boats. Although their intentions are noble, I have never seen fresh water put out for the cats so they drink out of rain puddles in the parking lot when available. As a result, everyone is dehydrated and almost all suffer from some sort of cold or upper respiratory infection. I am seeking assistance of any kind to help me with food and other necessities to carry this out. Most will need veterinarian treatment as well. Anything will help and I thank you for taking the time to listen to their story!

Hillsborough County "HERO" Kevin Beckner
Great job Mr. Beckner
The Human Rights Campaign
" This week Hillsborough County commissioners unanimously passed the Hillsborough Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO). HERO will ensure that no one in Hillsborough County can be discriminated against because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The Commission also voted 7 to 0 to move an ordinance creating a countywide domestic partnership registry forward to a public hearing and final vote on October 15 at 2:00pm. Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin Beckner drove both efforts, and HRC was pleased to offer
technical assistance." here
