Susan Smith's Reponse To New FDP Chair

As someone who's been involved in the Democratic Party off and on since 1970, and completely on since 2004, I know how disappointment feels. But I also recognize an opportunity when I see one. There are tremendous challenges ahead, but the potential to build the progressive movement in Florida has never been greater. This group, led by Stacey Patel, along with the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida and many other progressive Democrats around the state are not backing down. I have no doubt that consultant class Democrats are nervous today, not only by the support Stacey received, but by the type of campaign she ran. You did that
and you can be proud.
---
Also, it could have been much worse in this election. Terrie Rizzo is a grassroots organizer who has boundless energy. She is not interested in self-promotion or personal power. She has a big job ahead of her. But remember that she will have the status-quo consultants whispering in her ear every hour of every day. We must be the counter to that. We must challenge everyone in the party to continue the policies that have been enacted since last spring. We must demand open party communications, transparency, rules change, and support for local DECs, clubs and caucuses. We must remind them at every turn that we will not go backwards.
---
Thank you to Stacey and Sanjay for your leadership. You are an inspiration! here

Progressives Win In Florida

Susan Smith, President of the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida, released the following statement:
Congratulations to DPCF member Annette Taddeo on her hard-fought win in the Senate District 40 Special Election! This was a big victory for Annette, but more importantly, for the people of Florida.
Yesterday with the election of Annette Taddeo, the voters of Senate District 40 said yes to progress. They said yes to an academically sound, well-funded public education system and no to unaccountable, for-profit corporate charter schools. They said yes to safe drinking water and no to dangerous practices like fracking that can destroy Florida's precious environment. They said yes to improved infrastructure with better transit options and no to high tolls and road privatization. They said yes to putting the interests of the people over the interests of the powerful.
In the SD 40 race, the voters chose a progressive voice to represent them in Tallahassee. They chose Annette Taddeo because she will support policies that protect the many, not the few.

Florida's 2 Democratic Parties

Susan Smith vs Leslie Wimes
The difference between a great Democrat like Susan Smith and Leslie Wimes is that Susan Smith dedicates her time and her money to numerous Democratic and liberal causes she believes in.

There is no doubt that all of Susan Smith’s actions are geared toward making the Florida Democratic Party successful in a way that aligns with her vision for the party.

Ms. Wimes has no such record. There has not been a single instance where Ms. Wimes has supported a Democratic nominee or institution in Florida except against other Democrats. I am not saying her record on such matters is light. It is literally nonexistent. Florida Politics

Keep Charter Schools Out of Northwest Hillsborough County

"The charter school money-grubbers are trying to move into Northwest Hillsborough County by rezoning the corner of Ehrlich Road and West Village Drive. If you would like to join our efforts in opposing this, please become part of our group." Susan Smith

Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida President Susan Smith and Pinellas County Democratic Progressive Caucus President Amos Miers have released the following statement:
The Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida (DPCF) and the Pinellas County Democratic Progressive Caucus (PCDPC) are pleased to endorse Mayor Rick Kriseman for re-election as mayor of St. Petersburg.
Mayor Kriseman has supported and worked for increased wages for city employees, better policing practices, and common-sense gun safety regulations. He has also agreed to sign the Defend Our Democracy ordinance to lessen the influence of big money in politics if it is passed by City Council.
"When we re-elect Mayor Kriseman, our city will continue to be an inclusive and welcoming place that attracts a diverse population and socially-responsible businesses," said President Miers.
Smith recalled, "Since his days as a state representative when he was named a Middle Class Champion, Mayor Kriseman has fought for the rights of working families, women, and minorities."
The DPCF and PCDPC proudly endorse Rick Kriseman for Mayor of St. Petersburg.

Susan Smith Wing Of The Florida Democratic Party

"Some argue that we must figure out a way to appeal to the Democrats who voted for Trump. I would rather figure out how to reach the 40% of eligible voters who didn't vote in November." Susan Smith

And people are still standing!" Dezeray Lyn

Our Leader Susan Smith Speaks Out

Susan Smith, President of the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida, released the following statement on President-Elect Donald Trump's appointment of Breitbart Chairman Steve Bannon as Chief Strategist and Senior Counselor:
------------
"Do leaders and members of the Republican Party condone white nationalism, white supremacy, and anti-Semitism? Unless they speak out strongly against the appointment of Steve Bannon as Chief Strategist and Senior Counselor to the President, that is exactly what they are doing. Their party will forever be shamed by its ties to the extreme right wing agenda of the Alt-Right movement.
"As Chairman at Breitbart, Bannon has supported and encouraged deception, defamation, bigotry, and hatred. He is unfit to serve in a top position in the White House.
"We strongly urge Republicans to condemn this appointment and call for Donald Trump to withdraw it." Susan Smith

Jill Stein for President 2016

A few worlds from our leader:
"What did party officials think would happen this election? Are they so clueless about the sentiment that's percolating throughout the country? Did they think there would be no repercussions for rigging the debates? For not devising a better primary system?
For telling Bernie supporters
to shut up and fall in line?
There is an anger in the electorate that can't be swept under the rug. This is not about one election. This is about everything that's been happening in our country since the 1970s. Until the party figures out how to address it,
we are screwed." Susan Smith

For all you Dems who had your head up your ass and voted for Clinton or did not vote at all. Get ready for President Trump!

To the Berners in Florida, Riverside, CA. Maryland and the rest of America the revolution continues, we will not fall in line! VOTE JILL 2016

Statement From Our Leader Susan Smith

Today the Democratic Progressive Caucus is joining the Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence in calling for a special legislative session to consider an assault weapons ban as well as expanded background checks for gun purchases. It's time to end the NRA's stranglehold on gun policy and to make these sensible changes to our laws.
Last month's mass shooting in Orlando should have been a wake up call for Governor Scott, Attorney General Bondi, Speaker of the House Crisafulli and Senate President Gardner. A special session is needed immediately to address the proliferation of military assault weapons and the ease with which they're purchased. Our safety is in the hands of these leaders, and they are ignoring the obvious dangers of today's gun culture while serving the interests of the National Rifle Association and weapons manufacturers.
Since the founding of our caucus, gun safety has been one of our top legislative priorities. Three years ago, we called on the Florida Legislature to revisit the Stand Your Ground law in a special session. Our calls were ignored. It is our hope that the slaughter in Orlando will finally force our leaders to put safety ahead of the interests of the gun lobby by calling a special session now.
We also urge voters to look at the records of candidates before casting their ballots this fall. Check campaign donations and NRA ratings to see which candidates care about you and your community, then please vote accordingly. here

Susan Smith Rant

"Democratic powers-that-be support Blue Dogs/DLC/New Dems (many of whom are former Republicans). When these weak Democrats win, party leaders spend all of their time complaining that these DINOs won't work together with the caucus. The DINOs vote with Republicans giving them "bi-partisan" cover for shitty legislation. Voters then stay home at election time because they are disappointed in Democrats and don't know what we stand for." Susan Smith

Is Susan Smith And Deborah Mary Newell Leaving The Democratic Party?

"Count me in that (one-third of voters). I'm going to vote for Alan Grayson in Florida's August primary for Senate, then I'm out of the Democratic Party for good. Same thing with the husband and both voting-age sons. Well-done, Democratic Party! I'm hard-pressed to think of a more disappointing, corrupt establishment purporting to represent "progress". Deborah Mary Newell

"I came close to leaving the Democratic Party in 2010 over its ineptitude. If what I heard this afternoon is true--that someone in the Miami Dade Democratic Party is trying to push Senator Dwight Bullard out of his Senate run--then that could be it for me. Senator Bullard is a champion for women, minorities, low-income communities and the public schools. He is a progressive hero. If the party tries to push him out to make room for (yet another) former Republican, I will be done." Susan Smith
