Throwing Hillsborough Transit Into Reverse
These are major, systemic problems. County Commissioner Mark Sharpe, who serves on the board, gets it; he changed his mind and supported a tax increase for HART, which would cost the average homeowner about 41 cents a year. But his colleague, Commissioner Sandy Murman, a fellow Republican, is still playing politics. Murman said she won't support an increase "even if it's a penny."
Even if it's a penny? This is the mind-set Hillsborough needs to change if it hopes to address transportation and job development in a meaningful way.

From a letter to the St. Pete Times, more.

Smoking Some Of That Tea
After the bruising debate over raising the debt ceiling,
Howard Dean had harsh words for the tea party.

What Happened to Obama?
The arc of history does not bend toward justice through capitulation cast as compromise. It does not bend when
400 people control more of the wealth than 150 million of their fellow Americans.
It does not bend when
the average middle-class family has seen its income stagnate over the last 30 years while the richest 1 percent has seen its income rise astronomically.
It does not bend when
we cut the fixed incomes of our parents and grandparents so hedge fund managers can keep their 15 percent tax rates.
It does not bend when only one side in negotiations between workers and their bosses is allowed representation. And it does not bend when, as political scientists have shown,
it is not public opinion but the opinions of the wealthy that predict the votes of the Senate.
The arc of history can bend only so far before it breaks.

Sen. Bernie Sanders For President 2012
"Enough is enough! The American people must fight back. We need a government which represents all the people, not just the wealthy, campaign contributors and lobbyists. In these tough and discouraging times, despair is not an option. This fight is not just for us, it is for our children and grandchildren and for the environmental survival of the planet.".......Sen. Bernie Sanders

Kill Homeless Man
The incident was captured by a bystander with a cell phone, and bus surveillance tape released Monday showed agitated witnesses describing how officers beat Thomas and used a stun gun on him repeatedly as he cried out for his father. On the cell phone video, a man can be heard screaming over a fast, clicking sound that those on the tape identify as a stun gun being deployed.
