This Stogie Writer Supports Gillum!
The Ybor City Stogie is a collective blog wherein multiple activists have a platform. It was unfair and unfortunate that Miss Sanchez Robbins decided to speak for the Stogie when she declared that it would no longer support Andrew Gillum for Governor.
It’s understandable that some people are upset over Gillum accepting support from Hillary Clinton and Debbie Wasserman Schulz. Add to that the absence of Medicare for All from the Mayor’s platform, and some leftists are not as happy as they were pre primary. A lot of these leftists (not all by any means) are seemingly, just now, jumping into the fray. I can attest to that since I organized for Andrew Gillum for over two months as the only paid staffer in Hillsborough County pre primary.
Personally, I dislike DWS. Her opposition to medical cannabis in 2014 was regrettable and her role in opposing Bernie in 2016 was unfortunate. As for Hillary, I disagree with her on many things — that being said, the Gillum campaign is making it clear that we need to strive for Democratic unity post 2016. To have a candidate who can galvanize both “sides” of the party is huge, and shouldn’t be disregarded due to a small fragment of what could be considering “throwing under the bus.” Gillum stills supports full legalization of cannabis, healthcare expansion (I think he still supports Medicare for All), funding public education, and opposing over-standardization in schools. His campaign is taking help where it can get it, and is still pushing the progressive message.
Yes, Gillum supported Hillary in 2016. Should that, coupled with these other minor things, urge us to sweep him under the bus at a time like this? Not only is that irresponsible; it’s contrary to my political being, and I won’t stand for it being the only opinion on the Stogie.
Candidate Accused of Smoking Pot in Hotel Room...
In the 2016 election, Kim “KLARC” O’Connor pulled in 131
thousand votes to become the state’s only Green Party candidate elected to
office. However, the SWCD member has recently stepped down from her seat to pursue
a spot on the Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners. The move has come with
its share of controversy though, as past allegations once again surfaced that O’Connor
smoked marijuana in a hotel room during an official county event.

Andrew Gillum Throws Progressives Under The Bus
Gillum was able to gain lots of popularity in the primaries, thanks to progressives and Bernie Sanders. After changing campaign manager his popularity fell in a matter of hours thanks to Hillary Clinton and Debbie Wasserman Schultz. HERE

It may still surprise some, but Andrew Gillum did not support Bernie in the 2016 Primaries. He endorsed Hillary Clinton for the 2016 presidential primaries, campaigned for her in South Carolina and even gave a speech during her nomination at the Wells Fargo center in Philadelphia. Gillum was firmly on the wrong side of history when progressives needed all the support they could get.

If he loses, you can blame this guy.
Brandon Davis
He was Chief of Staff of the DNC during the 2016 DNC debacle and was a very a close Hillary Clinton ally.

I will no longer be supporting the mayor on this blog!
Update: My apologies. Mr. Edelson is correct,
the post has been updated!

PSA TO THEORY NERDS *AND* ACTIVISTS
"Stop arguing. Both of y'all matter. Eventually, probably sooner rather than later, we're going to have to get along so get over yourselves as soon as possible. We have shit to do. I've been thinking about this a lot lately, because Syd worked with literally everyone, from radical actions, to going to City Council and helping with campaigns, name it."

Ron DeSantis a disaster for the Florida GOP
Something like six different polls, 12 Ouija boards and 38 “Magic 8 Balls” all agreed that Ron DeSantis is losing to Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum. You know, the guy DeSantis calls a socialist. HERE
