Warning: Hillsborough County GOP Attempting Coup d'état

The republicans on the Hillsborough County Commission are trying to upend the HC Charter without going thru the charter review process.
----
This proposed change would allow
republicans to maintain power FOREVER.
-----
They are trying to change all constitutional officers to non partisan, trying to redraw the commission from 4 single member and 3 at large seats to 9 single member districts, and allow the republican controlled board to draw the lines of these new districts. These would be put on the ballot in Nov. and go into effect in 2020.
-----
Just in time for Sandy Murman to have a nice comfortable seat of her own in So. Tampa
-----
We need as many people as possible to show up at the HC Board of Commission meeting on Wed. morning. We need to use the 9-10 am hour of public comment to call out the republicans for their obvious political moves

Hillsborough County GOP Votes To Continue The Infestation

GOP commissioners voted 5-2 to move ahead with a plan to overhaul the structure of the Hillsborough County Commission including the addition
of two seats.
-----
The proposal is being pushed by Republican Commissioner
Sandy Murman. The proposal would give her more options to stay in office.
-----
The commission’s two Democrats voted against Murman’s plan. Commissioner Pat Kemp said the move is aimed simply at protecting Republican controlled at-large seats in what political pundits predict may be a tough election year for the GOP.
-----
"This is in my mind raw partisan politics, this is commissioners trying to draw districts for themselves to keep themselves on the commission." Pat Kemp

Sandy Murman smells the stench of defeat

She has unveiled a proposal to change the board’s makeup. She wants to eliminate  at-large seats. Some see it as a naked political move to shore up her future on the board.
-----
The motion by Murman to study the idea was
rejected by commissioners.
-----
-----
"Blatant political move by a Republican running for a countywide seat in a Democratic year. #FlipTheCommission and send Murman into political retirement!" Dave Cutler President at Hillsborough County LGBTA Democratic Caucus

Hillsborough County Sprawlers

Sandy Murman

-----
Business as usual for a commission that just three months ago appeared ready to hold the line on further suburban sprawl. And challengers to several commissioners seeking re-election this year say the vote is evidence that
change is needed.
-----
In one of the first tests of Hillsborough County’s stated commitment to fight sprawl, commissioners are giving a green light to a contentious new suburban development in east county.

Flipping The Hillsborough County Commission

I first met Julio the creator of this blog a couple of years ago as we were both waiting for the library downtown to open. He had just been to an event at Gaslight Park and wanted to post his Images. I was there for research on a book I have been working on. He offered me a guest blogger spot on his blog. I have to admit I have been slacking. He is going through a hard time right now and I want to help him. The following is something we have talked about many times. He never wanted to post this because he didn't want to call anyone/group
(Sunshine Citizens) out. But I will.

The case off Jeffrey Zampitella
I just came across a new site www.flipthecommission.com
Last year we had a chance to take out Sandy Murman. (We had a great candidate) The effort by the grassroots just wasn't there.

Doing early voting up to election day Julio spent every day at the Jan Platt Library waving a Pat Kemp sign. Not once did anybody come and hold Jeff's signs. No one even came to put any up. The only sign there was the one Julio brought.

Murman had people there that she was paying to hold her signs. (Notice how the GOP sticks together)

Pat Kemp's people were everywhere

So you can put up all the fancy websites and Facebook pages you want but if the effort is not there on the ground it is all for not.

Hillsborough County Right Wing Infestation

Right wing Hillsborough County Commissioners Lesley Les Miller, Ken Hagan, Sandy Murman, Stacy White, Al Higginbotham and Victor D Crist intend to restrict the number of medical marijuana dispensaries to 13.

Florida GOP Commissioners Ken Hagan and Sandy Murman made unfavorable comparisons to the dispensaries resembling the state’s notorious pill mills.

Only Pat Kemp Concerned About Shit Dumping

Chris’s Plumbing has requested permits to dump SHIT from septic tanks and portable bathrooms onto an 80-acre tract of land south of State Road 64, just off of Grange Hall Loop Road. The property is adjacent to a creek that runs into the Little Manatee River.
----------
Kent Bailey, with the Sierra Club, is concerned the permit
is even being considered by the county.
----------
Bailey said in Hillsborough County, there are four waste water treatment plants that can process the sludge Chris’s Plumbing is seeking to dump on the land. The waste water treatment plants would cost the business more than the land dumping.
“There is no reason for this to go forward, other than as a profit making venture,”
Sandy Murman,  Victor Crist and Ken Hagan

Hillsborough County Right Wing Infestation

Florida GOP County Commissioner Sandy Murman says she is "probably" going to leave her district seat to run for a countywide seat in 2018. Murman faces a 2020 term limit. Jumping to a countywide seat would restart her term limit clock. here
-----------------
DEMS BEWARE
Florida GOP Victor Crist and Ken Hagan could also be seeking new seats that would enable them to avoid term limits.

Letters From GOP Hillsborough County Commissioners

Letter I sent our county commissioners
on the issue of transit.

"I have been a HART rider for over 10 years. More roads does not help me at all. STOP spending our money on roads. We want more buses and rail. We have one of the worst transit systems in the country. With the exception of Ms. Kemp are you all in developers pockets?"
-----
Thank you for contacting the office of Commissioner Crist about funding for public transit.  I will be sure to share your thoughts and concerns on the issue with the Commissioner.
Sincerely,
Chris Heintz
Legislative Aide
Commissioner Crist, District 2
-----
Thank you so much for contacting our office regarding Transit. Your input regarding this issue is important  to the Commissioner. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and opinions with us. Have a great day and please don’t hesitate to call our office if we can be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Ms. Eli Rodriguez
Aide to County Commissioner Al Higginbotham
Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners
-----
Thank you for your email. Commissioner Hagan is just as frustrated as you are about the need for funding adequate transit in Tampa/Hillsborough county. That is why he was the only Republican on the Board to support placing the sales tax referendum on the ballot last year. Unfortunately, a majority of board members opposed that plan.

The hard truth is that we have billions of dollars in unmet infrastructure needs in Hillsborough county and the only way to begin to address that is to have a dedicated funding source of tax dollars—this has been very hard to come by. But Commissioner Hagan is committed to continue fighting to address our transportation needs in a meaningful and rational way. In the meantime, the Board will soon finalize a transportation plan that will dedicate $700 million over 10 years to improve existing roads and provide congestion relief where possible in Hillsborough county. Feel free to share with us any questions you may have concerning this plan. And please let us know if we can ever be of service to you. Have a great day.
