Florida DINO Patrick Murphy's Donations

In touting the $2 million Democrat Patrick Murphy raised during the first three months of 2016, his U.S. Senate campaign made a point to note that “over 85 percent of contributions in the first quarter were under $200.”
But while small-dollar donors might have donated thousands of times to the Jupiter congressman, they are far from being the predominant source of his Senate campaign’s income, either last quarter or in general so far.
His primary opponent, fellow U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson is actually the one getting the most traction among small-dollar Democratic supporters. here

Florida GOP Carlos Beruff

During the question-and-answer session that followed a speech to the Broward County Republican Party on Monday night, Carlos Beruff was asked by someone in the audience about his position on Muslim immigration. "Ah ha," he said. "I think our immigration department is broken. And I don't think it's safe to allow anybody from the Middle East into this country." Most of the audience of about 200 Republicans gathered at Deicke Auditorium in Plantation erupted in applause and some cheers.  When asked about Israel, he said the ban wouldn't apply to people from that country. here

Florida INC Continues To Waste Taxpayers Money

Florida INC. to start airing radio ads on Los Angeles and San Francisco radio stations blasting California's decision to raise the minimum wage. here

California has added twice as many jobs as Florida, while paying down debt, building a robust rainy day fund and taking bold action on issues CEO Scott continues to ignore, like climate change and poverty.

The Citrus Taliban Attacks Florida Supreme Court

Florida GOP Steve Crisafulli and Richard Corcoran attack the Florida Supreme Court’s 5-2 decision to suspend the state’s 24-hour waiting period for an abortion.
Crisafulli: “In my opinion, this has been one of the most activist and overreaching state Supreme Courts in recent memory. I believe our government works best when all sides respect the balance of power. It appears that several of our Justices seem to believe it is their job to invalidate any action of the Legislature, regardless of the law and constitution.”
Corcoran: “Apparently, abortion activists, and their liberal allies on the Supreme Court, are no longer content just for abortion to be legal; their goal seems to be to ensure that the maximum number of abortions are performed each year in Florida.  How else would you explain opposition to a law that simply protects women from being pressured or bullied into making a life-altering decision?”
Of course that’s pure bunk. It’s part of the effort by a GOP that’s increasingly out of touch on social issues to attack the authority of any court that Republicans haven’t stacked. Their strategy is to undermine courts until they can rig them to overturn any progressive legislation that might be passed in the future. here

Florida Latinos Turning Liberal

That view is supported in new research that suggests Cuban Americans in Florida are uniting, particularly the younger generation who will consider more liberal candidates, with other Latinos across party lines in the 2016 election. A new survey indicates that 65 percent of Florida Latinos say they don’t believe the GOP cares about them or is sometimes hostile to Latinos. That number is similar to the 73 percent of Latinos nationally who feel the same way about the GOP, according to the poll. here

Tampa City Council Stop Wasting Our Money On Consultants

We will give you this advice for free. Head on down to the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Library and check out their display of what I4 and I275 did to Tampa.  The county spent all that money on consultants for
GO Hillsborough and what did that get us? The start of the solution is simple. Buy the CSX tracks and some trains. Is someone on the council also in bed with
Beth Leytham? here

City Council remember you work for us, not FDOT. The state tried taking away the power of cities with Fracking and they lost. You want to keep your jobs or move up? Check this out!

Florida INC. To Forfeit $250 Million In Aid To Help Homeowners Facing Foreclosure

The state did not apply for the federal foreclosure assistance, the most recent and perhaps most egregious fumble in a disappointing string of actions by the Florida Housing Finance Corp., which manages the state's Hardest Hit programs. The agency has failed to properly manage $1 billion in foreclosure aid it had previously received from the federal government. here

John Morgan: Bring It On

He announced he will be leading a domestic trade mission to California in May and meet with businesses about possibly moving to the Sunshine State. “Our goal is to create the California-to-Florida jobs pipeline,” said Scott in a statement. As Governor (Jerry) Brown works diligently to drive businesses away from California, Florida can partner in providing locations for job creators who are looking to grow jobs and opportunities for families.” In his statement Wednesday, he said California’s $15-an-hour minimum wage, combined with “high taxes and burdensome regulations” will make job creation challenging. here

Mel Sembler Wants To Save Your Brain

Today, The Tampa Bay Times reported that Mel Sembler plans to raise at least 10 million to to kill proposed Amendment 2, Use of Marijuana for Debilitating Medical Conditions. In response,
Ben Pollara, Campaign Manager at United for Care stated:
----------
Mel Sembler can spend whatever he wants to try and deny sick and suffering Floridians relief in the form of medical marijuana, but the will of the people is stronger than his money. Mr. Sembler and his allies tried this once already in 2014, they spent $7.5 million dollars attacking medical marijuana and while they were successful in defeating the amendment, an overwhelming, 58% majority of voters still voted “yes”.
----------
The misleading campaign Sembler oversaw in 2014 won’t work again in 2016. This version of Amendment 2 received unanimous approval by the Florida Supreme Court. Editorial boards of Florida newspapers that opposed Amendment 2 in 2014 now endorse it in 2016. The most prominent and visible opponents in 2014 - the Florida Sheriff’s Association - hasn’t yet taken a position this year.
----------
The opposition is going to have to create a new set of lies to oppose Amendment 2. The people of Florida will see through those lies. United for Care will wage a statewide campaign to counter Sembler’s dishonest attacks, and medical marijuana will pass in November.

When Rick Scott Slithers Out Of The Governor’s Mansion

Ever wonder what will be left of natural Florida when Rick Scott slithers out of the Governor’s Mansion for the last time? Look at the Indian River Lagoon. Once a 150 mile-long bay of clear water filled with manatees, sea grasses and oysters, it has become a brown, stinking monoculture where only algae thrive. The fish are dying or dead. Look at the St. Johns River, or the Santa Fe River or Wakulla Springs and Silver Springs — all choking in toxic algal bloom fed by filthy runoff courtesy of Big Ag, Big Development and Big Sewer. No, not all of our environmental degradation happened on Scott’s watch. Previous governors have had a hand in it. here
Last year, the FWC Foundation gave him its top conservation award. That’s like giving Richard Nixon a merit badge for honesty. It’s absurd, appalling and entirely in keeping with the obsequious political vandals with which this governor surrounds himself.

Alan Grayson: Organize. Organize. Organize.

Alan Grayson has introduced legislation that would make it easier for workers who want to form or join a union, and make it harder to employers to stop. The Florida Democratic Representative’s Employer Free Choice Act of 2016 (HR 5000) says that if a majority of workers in a workplace sign cards authorizing a union, they get a union. here

Florida GOP John Mica's Taxes

Mr. Mica ripped into the District's finances at a hearing on Metro last week, fuming that he won't "bail out Washington, D.C." by funding the transit system. District tax records reveal that Mica isn't so fiscally responsible when it comes to his own share of the city's tax money. Between them, Mica and his wife Patricia Mica own six units on Capitol Hill. Between 2006 and 2013, they've racked up $1,071.81 across 17 penalty payments for paying their property taxes late. In 2006 alone, the Micas were hit with $608.29 in combined late penalties. here
